Layouts

A Layout defines what appears on a display. It is the visual template that combines media, text, data feeds, and other widgets into a complete screen design. Layouts can be full-screen or divided into zones, and can loop through content at defined intervals.

Navigate to: Sidebar → Layouts

Think of a layout as a slide or page. It has:

  • A defined resolution (e.g. 1920×1080 for a standard HD screen) — manage available resolutions in Resolutions.
  • One or more regions: zones on screen — full-screen, split, ticker, etc.
  • Content assigned to each region: media files, text, live data, clocks, web pages, and so on.
  • A duration that controls how long it plays before the next layout starts.

The Layouts page shows all layouts available to you in a searchable table. Each row shows:

ColumnDescription
NameLayout name
StatusBuild status: Valid, Invalid, Building, or Draft
PublishedPublishing status: Published, Draft, or Pending (awaiting approval)
DurationTotal playback duration

FolderThe folder this layout is organised into
  1. Navigate to Layouts in the sidebar.
  2. Click Add Layout.
  3. Enter a name for the layout.
  4. Select a resolution (or enter a custom width and height in pixels).
  5. Click Create. The new layout opens in the Layout Editor.

Templates let you start from a pre-designed layout rather than a blank canvas:

  1. Click the dropdown arrow next to Add Layout and select Template Gallery.
  2. Browse or search available templates.
  3. Select a template and click Use Template.
  4. Give the new layout a name and click Create.

The Layout Editor is a visual designer that opens in its own workspace. The canvas represents your screen at the configured resolution.

A region is a rectangular zone on the canvas. Each region holds its own sequence of content.

  1. Click Add Region in the editor toolbar.
  2. Drag the region to position it on the canvas.
  3. Resize it by dragging the corner handles.
  1. Click a region to select it.
  2. Click Add Content in the region panel.
  3. Choose a content type:
    • Media: pick a file from your Library
    • Text: formatted text or a ticker
    • Clock: live date/time display
    • Web page: embed an external URL
    • Dataset: pull from a Dataset
  4. Set the duration for this content item (how long it displays before moving to the next item in the region).
  5. Repeat to add multiple items to the same region. They will cycle in order.

Set the overall layout duration in the Layout Properties panel. This is the total time the layout displays before the schedule advances to the next item.

Click Preview in the editor toolbar to see how the layout will appear on screen.

  • Save saves a draft. Draft layouts are not served to displays.
  • Publish makes the layout available for use in playlists and schedules.

Click the three-dot menu on any layout row to access all available actions:

ActionDescription
Edit in DesignerOpen the Layout Editor
Checkout for EditingCheck out the layout to prevent others from editing it simultaneously
PublishPublish the layout to make it available for scheduling
CopyDuplicate the layout as a starting point for a new one
Save as TemplateSave this layout to the template gallery for reuse
PermissionsManage who can view or edit this layout
Retire LayoutMark the layout as retired (removes from active use without deleting)
DeletePermanently delete the layout

If you no longer want a layout to be available for scheduling but want to keep it for reference, retire it instead of deleting it:

  1. Click the three-dot menu on the layout → Retire Layout.

Retired layouts remain in the list but are excluded from schedule and playlist pickers. To bring a layout back into active use, click the three-dot menu and select Unretire Layout.

If multiple editors work on layouts simultaneously, checking out a layout locks it for editing:

  1. Click the three-dot menu on the layout → Checkout for Editing.

While checked out, other users see a locked indicator and cannot edit the layout. Check it back in when done by publishing or discarding your changes.

  1. Click the three-dot menu on the layout → Delete and confirm.
  • Viewers can browse and preview layouts.
  • Editors can create, edit, and publish layouts they have access to.
  • Admins have full access to all layouts.
