Device Tokens

Device tokens let you pre-authorize a player so it connects to Stratos and starts playing content immediately — no manual authorization step required. This is ideal for large deployments or remote installations.

A device token is a unique code that ties a specific player instance to a Stratos screen entry. When the player connects with a valid token:

  1. Stratos recognizes the token.
  2. The screen is automatically authorized.
  3. The player receives its assigned content and starts playing.
  1. Go to ScreensScreens.
  2. Click Add Display (or the token creation option in your account).
  3. Enter a name for the screen.
  4. Assign a default layout, folder, and time zone.
  5. Click Generate Token.

The token is displayed once. Copy it or download it — you won’t be able to retrieve it later.

During player setup, enter the device token in the player configuration:

  1. Open the player configuration on the device.
  2. Enter your Stratos URL.
  3. Enter the Device Token.
  4. Save the configuration.

The player connects, is automatically authorized, and begins playing the default layout.

StateDescription
UnusedToken has been generated but no player has connected with it.
ActiveA player has connected with the token. The screen is authorized.
RevokedAn administrator has revoked the token. The player must be re-authorized manually.

If a device is lost, stolen, or decommissioned:

  1. Go to the screen’s detail page.
  2. Click Revoke Token.
  3. The player loses its authorization and stops playing content.

You can generate a new token if the device is recovered and needs to be reconnected.

  • Treat tokens like passwords. Anyone with a token can register a device to your account.
  • Use one token per device. Don’t share tokens across devices.
  • Revoke unused tokens if they’re no longer needed.
  • Tokens expire after 30 days if unused. Generate a new token if needed.

For large deployments, you can generate multiple tokens at once:

  1. Click Bulk Generate Tokens.
  2. Specify the number of tokens and default settings.
  3. Download the token list as a CSV.

Distribute tokens to installation teams with the corresponding device names.
