Media Tags

Tags are free-text labels you can attach to media items for organization and filtering. They’re a powerful way to manage large media libraries and build dynamic playlists.

You can apply tags at several points:

  • During upload — enter tags in the upload dialog.
  • When editing — open a media item’s details and add or remove tags.
  • Bulk action — select multiple items and apply tags to all of them at once.

Tags are case-insensitive. Summer-Promo and summer-promo are treated as the same tag.

Effective tagging makes your media library easier to navigate and enables powerful dynamic playlists. Consider these conventions:

Tag CategoryExamplesPurpose
Campaignsummer-2024, holiday-sale, back-to-schoolGroup content by marketing campaign.
Locationlobby, cafeteria, storefrontIdentify where content should play.
Content Typepromo, menu, announcement, brandingCategorize by content purpose.
Audiencecustomers, staff, visitorsIdentify the intended audience.
Seasonspring, summer, fall, winterSeasonal content organization.

On the Media Library page, you can filter by tag:

  1. Click the Tags filter button.
  2. Type to search existing tags or enter a new one.
  3. Select one or more tags to filter.

The URL updates with the active tag filter, so you can bookmark filtered views.

The Tags page (Sidebar → Media → Tags) shows all tags in use across your media library. From here you can:

  • View usage count — see how many media items use each tag.
  • Rename tags — consolidate similar tags (e.g., merge summer-promo and summer2024).
  • Delete tags — remove tags that are no longer needed. This does not delete the media items.

Dynamic playlists can use tags as rules. For example, a playlist with the rule Tag = "lobby" automatically includes every media item tagged with “lobby.” As you tag new uploads, they appear in the playlist without manual intervention.
