The Playlist Editor

Edit content, settings, usage and activity, and save changes safely to a live playlist.

Click a playlist to open its editor. The header shows the name, type badge (Manual or Smart), item count, loop length, canvas size and how many live references (schedules, screens, layouts and overrides) use it.

The playlist editor, Content tab

The editor works on a draft. Nothing you change reaches a screen until you click Save changes (or press ⌘/Ctrl + S). The status beside the button shows Saved or that you have unsaved changes.

  • Discard resets the draft to the last saved version.
  • Leaving with unsaved changes asks you to confirm.
  • If the playlist is in use, saving asks Save changes to live playlist? and tells you how many live references it has. Saved changes can affect playback straight away.
  • A playlist needs a name to be saved. Add one on the Settings tab.
  • If a colleague saves first, you’ll see This playlist changed elsewhere. Your draft is kept. Choose Reload saved version, then reapply your changes, or Keep my draft. Stratos never merges or overwrites someone else’s work silently.

The ⋯ menu offers Duplicate playlist (this copies the last saved version, not your draft). Preview plays the last saved version too. See Previewing a Playlist.

If you only have read access you’ll see a Read only badge.

The Content tab has three parts:

  1. Timeline: blocks sized by playing time. See The Timeline.
  2. Sequence: the same items as a precise list with start times and durations. Drag the grip or use the arrows to reorder.
  3. Details: timing, name and expiry for the selected item.

Click Add content to add media, a layout or a web link. See Items, Types & Duration.

Adding content to a playlist

An empty playlist shows Build the first sequence. Removing items offers an Undo for a short time.

For smart playlists the Content tab shows a sample of what the rules currently match. See Smart Playlists.

  • Screens: screens playing it, and whether the schedule is active.
  • Overrides: including Emergency override.

Check this before editing a busy playlist or deleting one.
