Commands
Commands are actions you send from the Stratos web app to a screen’s player. They are useful for troubleshooting, verifying content, or recovering a stuck screen without physically accessing the device.
Available commands
Section titled “Available commands”Commands are sent from the screen detail page. Open a screen → Device section.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| Take Screenshot | Asks the player for a screenshot of what is currently on screen. The image appears in the app within a few seconds. |
| Refresh Content | Tells the player to contact Stratos immediately and pull any pending content or schedule changes. Equivalent to forcing an early sync. |
| Reboot | Power-cycles the entire device. Use when the player is unresponsive or content is stuck. |
When to use each command
Section titled “When to use each command”Take Screenshot — use this to confirm what a screen is actually displaying, especially after a schedule change, without visiting the physical location.
Refresh Content — use when you’ve made a change (new layout, updated schedule) and don’t want to wait for the next scheduled sync interval (typically 60–300 seconds).
Reboot — use as a last resort when the player is frozen or not responding to softer actions. The device will be offline for 30–60 seconds while it restarts.
How commands are delivered
Section titled “How commands are delivered”Commands are queued in Stratos and picked up by the player on its next manifest poll. Refresh Content is the exception — it triggers a near-immediate connection. Other commands (Screenshot, Reboot) execute on the next poll (usually within 60 seconds).
