Pairing a Device

Pairing a Device

Pairing a device is the process of connecting a physical screen’s player software to your Stratos account. This article walks you through the setup from installation to authorization.

Before pairing, ensure:

  • The player device is connected to your network.
  • The player can reach your Stratos URL over the network.
  • You have a Stratos account with permission to authorize screens.

Install the Stratos player software on the device. The player is available for:

  • Windows — installer package (.exe).
  • Linux — package for Debian/Ubuntu (.deb) and RHEL/CentOS (.rpm).
  • Raspberry Pi — Raspberry Pi OS image.
  • Android — APK file.

Download the appropriate package from your Stratos account or contact support for the latest version.

After installation, configure the player to point at your Stratos instance:

  1. Open the player configuration (usually at http://localhost:8080/config on the device).
  2. Enter your Stratos URL (e.g., https://stratos.stratos.com).
  3. Optionally enter a device name — this helps you identify the screen later.
  4. Save the configuration.

The player attempts to connect to Stratos immediately.

  1. Go to ScreensScreens in Stratos.
  2. The new device appears in the Pending Authorization callout at the top of the page.
  3. Click Authorize on the device row.
  4. (Recommended) Click Edit Display to set a clear name, time zone, and default layout.

The device becomes active immediately and starts playing its default layout or assigned schedule.

  • Check that the device shows as Online (green) on the Screens page.
  • Use Request Screenshot to verify the correct content is playing.
  • Confirm the time zone is set correctly — this affects schedule evaluation.
